INDIVIDUAL HONOURS 9
CHEVRON AWARD - ERG-SPORTSMAN DELL'ANNO
A PRESTIGIOUS INDIVIDUAL HONOUR A PLAYER COULD WIN IN ITALY.
Winner - Regarded as the Best Scorer in Italy for the past season.
Organisers - It is not clear who organised this award,
probably it was a newspaper/journal or the main sponsors
of the award - ERG S.p.a. (Edoardo Raffinerie Garrone)
and Chevron Corporation, for whom it was named.
Participating Players - All football Players who have
played and scored in the Serie A the previous season.
Award Objective and Structure - This award was initial called 'Chevron Award' after the sponsors 'Chevron Corporation' and in the 1980's the name was changed to ERG-Sportsman dell'Anno with the change of the sponsor 'ERG Edoardo Raffinerie Garrone'. The award was assigned to the player that finished with the best goal-per-match ratio (the goals scored divided by the matches effectively played plus the number of rounds in which the player was suspended) in the previous Serie A season. This award was also given to the Serie B player with the best goal-per-match ratio. It was discontinued for football scorers after the 1993 season, although it is still sometimes awarded to athlets coming from different sports disciplines other than football.

The ninth part of all Individual
International and National Honours
won by Azzurri players and officials throughout the years
Since the Italian National Team is among the very few National Teams who almost won all the major competitions and trophies that football can offer, both World and European, it is logically that the azzurri players and officials who achieved this success are bestowed with the major individual awards and honours. The ninth page of Individual Honours also concentrates on the Italian domestic awards, and continues on the awards organsied by the AIC (Associazione Italiana Calciatori - Italian Footballers Association), the Gran Gala Del Calcio: Best Coach, Best Young Player, Best Goal, Best Referee, Career Award, Fidelity and Critics Award and the Special Award; together with the defunct Calciatore D'Oro and Calciatore D'Oro ad Honorem. the Cappocannoniere - Serie A Top Scorer award, Premio AIC, Chevron / ERG - Sportsman dell'Anno award, Pallone Azzurro and the Premio Nazionale 'Enzo Bearzot'.
